Much as I like mages, Templars would win a major war. It'll probably be fun to tip the scales one way or the other in a couple weeks.

The templar army fighting a bunch of mages that have gone full abomination, maleficarum or just drew the line at blowing up churches full of sweet old grandmothers probably wouldn't inspire a lot of mercy in the ranks. Even Orsino panicked and went full flesh golem when he realized how screwed they were.
The templars only seem to straight up lose big fights with mages when they hold back out of sympathy and humanity. A hushed mage is just a nerd with a stick in a dress. The templars are an order that exists to put mages down, with specialized training to defend against and even negate whatever magical advantages the mages have. If we're going on lore and history, considering mages have already gotten their asses kicked in a couple exalted marches, and were successfully controlled by templars in the circle towers for hundreds of years, I'd disagree with your summary. It's like asking, "Who would win - Superman and his surviving Kryptonian relatives, or the Batman Incorporated army all wearing kryptonite armor?" Gotta say I've stepped over a lot of mage corpses in my Dragon Age runs. But in this situation, I don't think the fight is fair. I love these "who would win in a fight" scenarios.
